The Gig economy is a new business model that uses digital technologies to connect people. This development trend of the Gig economy is predicted to contribute a great part to the national labour market. However, most Gig workers in Vietnam work for low skilled jobs. This study provides conceptual definition of the Gig economy, relevant regulatory challenges and international best practices. In addition, empirical findings of the study will contribute significantly to understand motivations and impacts of Gig economy on social protection of low skilled Gig workers (ride hailing/delivery and domestic workers), and eventually provide inputs for the improvement of Labour Code 2020 - 2021
