The Government of Lao PDR is currently drafting its 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (9th NSEDP), which will guide the country's development in the period 2021-2025 and help achieve the goal of graduating from least developed country (LDC) status. This paper aims to provide input to the drafting of the 9th NSEDP on how to reflect circular economy concepts and principles. It explains the circular economy as an approach to policymaking, shows why this approach is relevant and important for Lao PDR at this point in time and provides ideas on how the government could take action to promote circular economy practices in major sectors.
