Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam co-hosted two high-level events with our international partners on circular economy at the sidelines of the UN Summit of the Future 2024 and New York Climate Week 2024. Besides these two events, various meetings with a wide range of global networking and knowledge partners were organized. This not only fostered dialogue on circular economy on a global scale but also ensured that experiences and voices from the Global South are being fed into the multilateral discussions on circular economy. These activities are part of the HSF’s Global Project on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change (GMACC).

Ecothon - the annual competition for promising sustainable business ideas in ASEAN countries - was co-organised by the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF) in Indonesia. This competition marked the conclusion of the Ecothon 2024 series, following the success of events in Lao PDR, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

The third competition of the Ecothon 2024 series took place in August - September with the enthusiastic participation of 15 start-ups with innovative business ideas aiming at facilitating sustainable consumption and production (SCP) as well as a transition to circular economy not only in the Philippines but also in the ASEAN region.

Out of 20 shortlisted teams who have finished the Boot Camp phase, 10 teams made it to the National Final of ClimateLaunchpad Vietnam 2024 in which they had the opportunity to present their business models to national and international experts and competed for CLP Regional Final for the Asia-Pacific region. The National Final goes beyond a mere competition with a series of follow-up tailor-made coaching sessions for all 10 finalists that can help them overcome challenges facing their start-ups.

Hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups of the Republic of Korea and jointly organised by the Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF), the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC), Ecothon is an annual competition for promising sustainable business ideas and models in selected ASEAN countries, running since 2019. This year, following the success of programme in Lao PDR, Ecothon in Malaysia was held as the second competition of the Ecothon 2024 series.

On September 2, 2024, the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Thailand had the privilege of connecting with students from the Faculty of Criminology and Justice Administration at Rangsit University. This engagement aimed to bridge the gap between academic study and real-world action, aligning with HSF’s mission to support education, good governance, and justice reform.
