Linking up in the time of a pandemic, former Hanns Seidel Foundation scholars from the Philippines convene online for the Hannsiklub’s Fourth Quarter General Membership Meeting to keep abreast of the Foundation’s programs, gain an overview of the current state of education in the Philippines and stay informed about fellow members.

Nearly 60 national and international experts joined the discussion via Zoom on plastic waste reduction approaches in Vietnam. The workshop was co-organised by Hanns Seidel Foundation Vietnam (HSF) and the Institute of Strategy, Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE), originally planned as a hybrid event but was turned into an entirely virtual event at the last minute due to the COVID-situation.

In an online press conference on 2 December 2021, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR), in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, announced the publication of APHR’s new report titled Parliamentarians at Risk: Reprisals against oppositions MPs in Southeast Asia in 2021.

Together with ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC), the Ministry of SMEs and Start-ups of the Republic of Korea, and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Republic of Indonesia (KUKM), Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) hosted the second Korea – ASEAN Business Model Competition 2021 on Digital Economy for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on 2nd December. Due to the pandemic situation, the competition was held as a hybrid event with only organisers and hosts being at the offline setting in Jakarta while all participants and international judges joined the event via Zoom.

From 30th November to 01st December, hundreds of sustainable development experts and practitioners gathered together in the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) Annual Conference 2021 to discuss challenges and solutions for circular food systems in ASEM countries. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ENVforum Annual Conference took place online for the second year in a row, opening opportunities to a wide public all over the world to join interactive thematic sessions focusing on circular economy in food systems.
