As countries worldwide accelerate efforts to decarbonise their economies, start-ups are playing an increasingly important role in developing innovative technologies and sustainable business models. With its ambitious energy transition and dynamic innovation ecosystem, Germany offers significant opportunities for international start-ups seeking to scale their solutions and access new markets. The masterclass aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge on Germany’s energy landscape, regulatory frameworks, and business conditions. Opening remarks by representatives from dena and HSF Vietnam set the stage by highlighting the importance of cross-regional cooperation in advancing sustainable entrepreneurship and circular economy solutions.
Participants received first-hand insights into energy market trends in Germany, business set-up procedures, and available incentives from experts at Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI). Presentations covered key topics such as market entry strategies, innovation hubs, and policy frameworks that support foreign start-ups operating in the German energy sector.

The programme also featured contributions from innovative initiatives and start-ups already active in the field. A presentation by Alternō, a start-up developing sand-based energy storage solutions in Vietnam, offered a practical case study on sustainable energy innovation and international scaling. Additional inputs from Germany’s Digital Hub Initiative highlighted how start-ups can connect with innovation clusters and industry partners across the country.
By bringing together experts, institutions, and start-ups from Germany and Vietnam, the virtual masterclass reinforced HSF Vietnam’s role in fostering peer learning, strengthening international networks, and connecting ASEAN and regional start-ups with partners and opportunities in Germany and the European Union.
The masterclass marked another step in HSF Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable entrepreneurship through international exchange, enabling start-ups to navigate global markets while contributing to climate action and sustainable development.
