Luncheon During President Steinmeier’s Visit

Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Philippine Office Resident Representative Alexander Birle attended the official luncheon held at the Malacañang Palace on the occasion of the visit of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Manila on 16 June 2026.

During the event, Birle met and exchanged views with Minister of State Florian Hahn.  Minister Hahn highlighted the importance of the Foundation’s work in the Philippines, in particular in strengthening the rule of law.

After President Steinmeier’s departure, Birle took part in a joint photo with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and representatives of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Since 1979, the HSF has supported development cooperation in the Philippines through partnerships aligned with the country’s development agenda.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit to the Philippines underscored the growing importance of relations between Germany and the Philippines. The two countries share common interests in the areas of defense, maritime security, peace, trade and investment, renewable energy, and strengthening a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
