Economic Empowerment of Women in Small Villages

The workshop in Indramayu (Java Barat) from 27 to 30 September 2018 was part of the cooperation between HSF and Muslimat NU on economic empowerment of women.

The joint programme focuses, inter alia, on reintegration of migrant workers into village structures, micro-finance opportunities and economic activities of women to support family income. In a first step a training module was developed by experts and assessment missions and focus group discussions were carried out in pilot villages.

On the first day of the workshop various experts gave theoretical input based on the freshly developed training manuals. On the second day, a field trip took the participants to a production facility in which local women produce food products, clothes and also jewelry. The products are then sold on local markets.

On the third and fourth days of the workshop, role plays and brainstorming sessions encouraged the paricipants to create new ideas. They simultaneously learned how to implement them.

The Muslimat NU plans to follow-up and will further support the village structures in Indramayu. Furthermore, additional workshops are planned in other regions and provinces of Indonesia with the support of HSF.
