Former Scholars consider adoptive measures and plan for the 2023

Hannsiklub holds its regular general membership meeting participated in by its members both in person and online to discuss restructuring, activities scheduled for the second half of 2022 and projects for 2023. The hybrid meeting was held at The German Club with online hosting by the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) and was participated in by a total of nineteen members.

Connecting again after more than two years, former scholars of the Hanns Seidel Foundation gathered last 15 July 2022 for the Hannsiklub’s Third Quarterly General Membership Meeting, convening nineteen of its members – four on-site and fifteen online – in its first hybrid activity.

Part of the agenda was to explore “restructuring” and to consider new methods of operation in an effort to address the prevailing global health situation, rise of remote working culture and rapid advancements in technology in the hope of strengthening the group’s organisational capabilities.  The participants also discussed activities planned for the months of August to November 2022 and proposed projects for the year 2023.  One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of recorded messages by former representatives of the Foundation’s Institute for Scholarship Programmes in Munich, Germany.

Known as the organised group of former HSF scholars from the Philippines, the Hannsiklub comprises alumni from the first batch of HSF scholars in 1983, that included young professionals from different fields of expertise who completed two-year further study and training programs in Germany with the HSF’s support.  This was succeeded by several more batches in the following years.

Less than ten years later, the Hannsiklub was established in 1992 by the alumni during the first Nachkontaktkonferenz (“Follow-up Contact Conference”) held in the Philippines.  The primary objective of the association was for the group to remain in contact with each other and to keep alive the memories and experiences in Germany.  The alumni also wanted to maintain and strengthen their contact to Germany and to the Foundation.

Projects proposed for 2023 included: (a) resumption of participation in the Mentoring Sessions under the Dualtech Center’s Advanced Stage Training Program (ASTP) as mentors to the Center’s trainees (Hannsiklub’s members started participation in the ASTP in 16th October 2009); (b) support for German Cultural Month exhibits of fellow former scholars teaching the German language in public high schools (c) conduct of online seminars on various topics, especially those on which members are experts (finance, stock markets); (d) exploration of possible support for/joint initiative with Insphero* (www.facebook.com/InspheroPH/); and, (e) organization of Hannsiklub Oktoberfest 2023.

Those present during the meeting comprised members in Metro Manila, members who are located in other regions of the country -- Ilocos Sur, Ilocos (Region 1), Bicol Region (Region V), and Iloilo, Western Visayas Region (Region VI), as well as some who are currently based abroad (e.g.: Australia and Saudi Arabia).

A more in-depth discussion of the group’s internal organisational affairs as well as the finalisation of the 2023 Plan of Activities will be caried out in the Fourth Quarterly General Membership Meeting, scheduled to be held in November 2022.

*INSPHERO is a social enterprise, which “aims to rekindle the hopes of employed Filipinos who have not completed college to realize their dreams of a college degree, by providing a clear college completion pathway that is affordable and valued in the workplace and communities.”  It was established by one of the members of Hannsiklub.
