ECOTHON is an abbreviation of Eco-Entrepreneurs Marathon, a business model competition for eco-entrepreneurs who have innovative business ideas related to Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). The ceremony was officially opened by Dr. Choonglai Cho, Secretary General of ASEIC, followed by congratulatory remarks from Mr Michael Signer, Regional Representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation, Mr. Michael Sterne, Deputy Country Representative to Lao PDR and Mr. Thanousone Phoneamath, President of Lao ICT (LICA).

Nine selected teams presented their ideas for developing products and services which are produced in an environmental-friendly way and mainly made out of waste and domestic natural raw materials. The event serves as a platform and offers those teams the ideal opportunity to learn, discuss and further develop their business ideas along with international experts in SCP as well as with successful business owners in Lao PDR. The winner team “Back2Nature” will participate and present their idea to potential investors at the most famous and biggest startup festival in Korea "K-Startup Week ComeUp 2021" in November.
