In recent years, the ASEAN region has become a focal point of strategic and geopolitical disputes between the two great powers. On November 26, 2021, the Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance, in cooperation with the Asian Governance Foundation and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, hosted the AiR online panel discussion "Hedging, Bending or Choosing – ASEAN in Times of Tightening Great Power Competition. This Online Panel Discussion aimed to explore the intensifying great power rivalry between China and the US that poses geostrategic challenges as well as possibilities for ASEAN and its member states. 

Together with our panelists and international relations experts Mr. Chin Hao Huang, Division of Social Sciences, Yale-NUS College, Singapore, Mr. Cheng-Chwee Kuik, Centre for Asian Studies, National University of Malaysia and Mr. Rahul Mishra, Asia-Europe Institute, Malaya University, we took a closer look to the geopolitical landscape in Southeast Asia in times of tightening great power competition.
