The dialogue and workshop brought together different stakeholders in the region – political parties, regional parliamentarians, and civil societies organizations.

In the opening remark, the Speaker of Thaninthayi Regional Parliament, U Khin Maung Aye said, “It is a great opportunity to discuss on federalism by the help of an international expert. We should take into account on what are agreed before 1947 Panglong Agreement, the principles General Aung San set that time, as well as the 37 points agreed in Pyidaungsu Accord Part I. We already have our own draft of Thaninthayi Regional/State Constitution. And we should move forward to develop another draft of it with the knowledge we gain from this workshop.”

On the very first session, Dr. Soeren Keil presented on the principles of federalism, followed by the presentation of Ying Lao on how federalism is understood in Myanmar.

Speaker of Thaninthayi Regional Parliament U Khin Maung Aye held a keynote speech to welcome the participants of the Dialogue and Workshop on Federalism.
